Michael Hammond (this website is a work in progress; bear with me)
You're looking at a photograph of an empty building standing at the T-intersection of 140th Street (a county road, basically) and Highway 67, also known as the Great River Road, The Mississippi River is flowing a mile or two behind this building. This spot is known as Almont, Iowa, and is part of Elk River Township. My father grew up on a farm located a couple of miles south of here. My mother grew up on a farm a few miles west of here. They had their first date at a dance-hall-turned-roller-rink once located in the corn field across the road from this building. My father's parents dropped by every Thursday night when it was still a dance hall. There's nothing there now. Except corn. And ghosts.
